In the beginning of the story, I could relate to Joanna and how she felt when her friend Diane came back into her life and disrupted her quiet, reclusive life, bringing back memories of the past. People get comfortable with their lives, and change can push them into places they don't want to go. And I was shocked, along with Joanna, at a decision her father made, one that created problems for the family.This is a story with a bit of romance and family drama, a book that makes you look deep into what's really going on in the minds of the characters involved. The problems in this story are very real, not the usual exaggerated problems you'll find in so many stories. It has a nice Christian message, without being preachy.I think my favorite part was learning about horse therapy. It was an interesting topic and something I'd never heard of before. But it makes sense. Using animals to help people discover things about themselves. If dogs can be therapeutic and comforting, why not horses.

Joanna has worked with her dad Ray to grow the Hazeley Show into a national event, after her Mum died. Joanna’s friend, Diane, suddenly reappears in her life. It takes Joanna back into the past, the race with Diane and how she thrashed her horse, Challenger, to win the County cup then withdrew due to his injury. She’s given up on riding. Diane wants to start afresh, open a small riding school and do horse therapy, using their stables. But it’s become more than that as Diane moves into the rooms above the stables. Does Diane have an ulterior motive? Is Diane’s arrival the beginning of changes in Joanna’s life? Anna Rashbrook has plenty in the story to interest horse lovers and dog lovers, including some hilarious moments involving a pair of frisky puppies! The spirit of God adds religious and spiritual aspects to a moving story.

An interesting read. The story revolves around Joanna as she is running an equestrian event but refused to participate in them because of her deceased mother who pushed her love to win races no matter what on her, causing her to injure her horse Challenger when she was younger. An old friend and competitor meets with her about opening an equestrian therapy school on Joanna's property but she has an agenda that causes a lot of strife drama. There's plenty of drama and arguing will causes the horses to react and act out, especially when everyone goes through horse therapy and counseling. What more can you ask for because animals do reflect our emotions back at us, we only need to listen and learn. I highly recommend this one!

Beautiful rural family drama, especially for horse and animal lovers!I loved the setting, and the author really brings the manor house and stables to life. The story itself is quickly paced and I couldn’t stop turning the pages fast enough. The emotions run high, with happy and sad moments both.The characters are also richly detailed, and I really felt for them as I read their stories unfold.I thoroughly enjoyed this book, especially as it centered on horse therapy. Wonderful story! Five stars!

Strong character interaction, tangled emotions and sad moments make this a gripping read. Set around a old manor house and stables it has a charm all of its own.

Joanna and Dianne had been friends in their teens, both being horse mad and liking to compete in events. The difference is that Joanna is driven to win, while Dianne is just having fun. After disappearing suddenly, Dianne and her mom reappear some years later to find a location for Dianne's horse therapy business. One of the things that alerted me to how this might go was Joanna making sure Dianne knew she only won the last event because Joanna decided to withdraw, having felt guilty for pushing her horse so hard she injured him. So the rivalry, at least on Joanna's side, was still there. Events unfold in an unexpected fashion amid the operation of the business, which is now operating out of the stables of Joanna and her father. Great read for animal lovers and those who enjoy a good story.

I loved this book! Horses. Dogs. What more could you ask for in a good book?Well, there is more, but, you will find it here. The characters were relatable and interesting. The problems they faced, are problems we all face at one time or another, and these were dealt with in a very creative way. Great book, highly recommended!!

If you are into the horse scene, Challenger is a great read. There's even a dose of joy for dog lovers as well. A nice, fast, read.
