The Fallen Princess had all the elements I have come to expect and love about Sarah Woodbury's Gwen and Gareth mysteries - storytelling that is engrossing, characters that are almost life-like and vibrant, and medieval Wales is the 'icing on the cake', providing us a picture of people's lives during this period. The latest Gwen and Gareth mystery is set against the back-drop of Nos Galen Gaeaf (Hallowmas) and Calan Gaeaf (All Saints' Day) celebrations. Aber, the home of King Owain of Gwynedd, is busy with the preparations for the feast later that day, and numerous people are coming and going. Amidst the preparations, a body is found and is identified by Prince Hywel ap Owain Gwynedd as that of his missing cousin, Tegwen. Naturally King Owain calls on Hywel, Gwen and Gareth to determine who has killed her - a task made difficult since Tegwen has been missing for five years and the trail has long gone cold. Yet, as readers will know, using good observation skills, competent conversation or interrogation and smarts, Hywel, Gwen and Gareth will eventually find their way to solving another murder mystery - at least in theory we all hope they do. Fallen Princess will lead readers on a journey through the short life of an unhappy princess and a convoluted tale of intrigue; there will be obstacles in the way that appear to hinder the investigations and lives will be put at risk before the end of this latest story. I am looking forward to the next Gwen and Gareth mystery - I can't get enough of these books, they are exceptional.

As a fan of Sarah Woodbury's style I was once again captivated by her medieval heroes, Gareth and Gwen. My last review was about the Pendragon series, which I did not like at all. While I enjoyed the time travel of the After Cilmeri series, the Pendragon was too odd. My review of the Last Pendragon was brutal. But in this story I was once again in medieval Wales with Gareth and Gwen. I look forward to more of their adventures and any other stories that do not make me wonder if I am reading "Lord of the Rings". No trolls and odd monster transformations for me.

Wow, I'm glad I ordered the first 2 books in this series! After reading the first book, I was not wanting more, and I would of never ordered the second one! But since I had already bought it, I decided to give it a chance and Waa-Laa, I am now hooked! Love the characters of Gweneth & Gareth. I will be starting the fourth book this evening & can hardly wait.

The Gwen and Gareth series, as all of Sarah Woodbury's books, is very well researched and gives you a good feel for what life may have been like in the 1100s Wales. She weaves a good mystery with very believable characters, and keeps you on the edge of your chair. I highly recommend it for anyone that likes reading about the medieval era, and likes to try to figure out 'who done it'.

I am a fan of Sarah Woodbury's Gareth and Gwen Medieval Mysteries and this book was up to her high standards!Gwen is shone as a strong woman in a day when women were expected to listen and be obedient, but not always heard. The death occurred five years before the body is found, and they must identify the remains and determine how the victim died and who killed her. The clues lead to more mysterious deaths. An excellent read!

I enjoy this series because Gareth and Gwen are a likable pair of sleuths and inhabit an historical world I knew nothing about.The constant flux and testing across borders and hierarchy among the petite kingdoms of the time is interesting. During this period the proud Welsh were still independent and their relationships with the Irish, the Danes, and the English were quite complicated and add layers to the various intrigues of the story.

Can it get any better? I hope so but can't figure out how. Ms. Woodbury has hit all my buttons with this series and it just gets better with each installment. The latest has just as much mystery and historical influx as the first. The romance is heartwarming and real, the characters love and desire without dirty language or smut. This is true romance, with a murder twist and a minor lesson in Welsh.

These two and their leige Lord, Prince Hywel, are getting too be better and better detectives. Ms Woodbury's books are well researched, historically accurate, imaginative and well paced. The mystery takes many twists and turns and keeps you guessing until the end. The principal characters are likable and easy to root for, and the various bad guys complex and believable.Keep it up, Sarah!
