I have read this book, marked my favorite sections, dog eared and shared this to no end within my practice as an HR Professional. This book is a perfect solution, providing the right amount of guidance to enable (but not remove responsibility from) leaders to develop talking points and have a solid plan to address issues when they occur. I use this resource often as a gift for leaders and HR Pros when I am speaking and as an onboarding tool within my own team. Truly worth the investment, and will even inspire and develop your own critical thinking process when coaching your leaders.

Great book for those tough and many times awkward conversations. Being honest and forthright with employees is the way to go and this book helps you discuss everything from body odor to attendance issues with tact and candor. The concrete examples are the best feature of the book. Saying that one should discuss things in this manner or that is much less effective than hearing the actual manager's side of the conversation being played out.As a new manager last year I have gone back and referenced this book more than any other management book I've read!

Love, love, love this book! I work in Employee Relations, and I reference this book often prior to having conversations with employees, and it has been borrowed so many times by other HR staff that we finally ordered one for each of our Employee Relations Reps. In addition, the Supervisors and Managers love this as well - great reference book! Like a cook book - easy to find the difficult conversation, and then the recommendation on how to have the conversation.Would recommend for HR staff and for Managers and Supervisors!

I was looking for a reference tool that matched our philosophy and was easy to use. I liked what I read and the other reviews so I took a chance on ordering this. I am an HR mgr and we immediately got this into the hands of two managers who needed to have tough conversations. One manager had years of experience managing people and the other a new manager. The dialogue fits our particular culture where dignity and truth are encouraged in employee communication. I am sure this will be one of our most appreciated resources for a long time to come. The index made it easy to zero in on the specific behavior that needed to be addressed and the topics were thorough enough in the descriptions without being overly wordy or time-consuming for busy managers to read. I also appreciated the author's advice on topics that need to involve HR and or Legal. I also ordered 2600 Phrases for Effective Performance Reviews and our first impression is that it will also be very useful.

This is a must read for supervisors. While not a supervisor, I saw it on my new boss’s desk and it looked intriguing. Helped expand my thinking about what bosses need, as well as how to ask for what I might need in a direct way
