I gave these Harry Starke books a 5 star review because they kept me interested and wanting to read more from page one. Harry Starke is an ok guy, maybe a little too handy with the ladies, but still ok. And of course all of his women are drop-dead gorgeous, so that's also just a bit annoying. There's no real description of Starke, but he must be some hunk of a man, because all the beautiful woman want him. The only thing that makes this part of Harry palatable is that there are no over-the-top descriptions of his sexcapades. I know that's not a word, but you get my drift. Otherwise, for some reason, it's hard to put his books down. He's chasing bad guys so you root for him all the way. There's not a lot of mundane filler, either, you know when you're just tired of the extra verbiage so you basically scan a few pages to get to the substance. There are a few typos here and there, but not many. This is probably a series men would like because every man would probably love to be Harry Starke, lol.

Very relatable characters. Harry is a tough, lovable rebel PI. Great story lines. I immediately bought books 4-6, after reading 1-3. Each book stands on it's own with a new plot and murder/mystery to solve.

Really enjoyed this! Howard writes in a style that is reminiscent of J.A Jance and Lee Child, while Starke also reminds me of Spenser and Travis McGee. His sexual exploits remind me of Stone Barrington. But what's with the detailed clothing and shoe descriptions? I am so glad when I find a new author with a good number of books so I can binge. I just bought Books 4 - 6.

First time reading this author and I really liked his flow in telling the story of Harry Starke. Weren't too many characters to try to keep up and all were interesting individuals. I also liked how the author would speak to what Harry was thinking which was comical and I liked the added humor written it. But I do agree with another reviewer about what's with all the descriptive clothing that was detailed every time Harry dressed. As well as his critique of every woman in this series describing in detail their body structure and how each woman was gorgeous. I found that just annoying. I also question Lt. Kate Gazzarra choice in wearing 3 in high heels in her daily work ''uniform." That's unheard of in law enforcement for a sworn women officer to dress in such a manner. You can sex her up without the 3 inch stilettos. But otherwise the books I really like now that I know what to expect in Harry's dealings and descriptions. I'll keep reading the series. There not long reading books which I like, they get to the point and move on which Harry does his way.

It only took 48 hours/1 weekend to read the series. I found myself putting other things on hold to stop and read just a few more pages. Of course, those few pages turned into several chapters. The thing I liked most, the characters were all very real. With the detail of their looks and personalities, it truly was like putting a name with a face. Can't wait to read the next series but won't start until my workweek is complete. Can't let Harry cause me to lose my job. 10 star rating from me!!!!

Just finished the first 3 books in the series and turned around me bought the next 3 books. Never boring, easy and fun. I enjoy the characters, feel like I on0w them and look forward to what will happen next.

This is a fast moving story able to grip you into the story and still leave you trying to figure it out. A good read.

Like another reviewer, I just finished the first three books and bought the next set immediately. Love the characters, though I could do with a little less of Harry's sexual exploits. At least they're not graphically portrayed. Thank goodness! The stories are really gripping. I found it hard to put the books down. I loved the fact that they were sold on Kindle in groups of three for a very affordable price, considering how many of these things I read. Thanks for writing them. You've made me a fan, and I hope my review will encourage others who like mystery and adventure like the Jack Reacher books.

The chemistry and beautiful love between Chelsea and Brawny is fantastic and their personalities and understanding of eachother and love for family puts this wonderful companion over the top.

A clever novella that brings together two people from previous stories. I am enjoying this author's work very much, not only this series but her other ones also.

What a fun book! Every child's fantasy is to live in a super-cool place, at least it was mine, and I remember reading this is a child and being SO envious. To live in a museum! Even if for only a week! And to work on the mystery of an statue! Wow! I loved it.Happily enough, the magic had not worn off when I re-read it today. In Claudia and James, Konigsburg has created real kids, with real emotions and actions. The plot is exciting enough to hold attention, while still maintaining a sense of "this could've really happened!".There was no moral lesson to be learned it this book--Claudia and James run away and nothing bad happens to them. Matter of fact, they succeed and are rewarded. For that reason, I suppose a bit of parental reminding that running away is dangerous and wouldn't happen like it does in books might be advisable.Otherwise, it's an enjoyable read for adults and children alike and just might stir up an interest in art and museums. Books that encourage kids to have an interest history or art (like The Egypt Game) need to be recommended as highly as possible. This one will stir the imagination of any receptive child and might start a life-long enthusiasm--it was one of the starting blocks for me.

Oh this book is such a classic! Young girl who is the oldest sister decides to run away. She carefully selects her accomplice (second younger brother jamie) and then camps out in the Met. Good golly! How awesome! This was the original museum slumber party! I (re)read this book with my 13 year old and 11 year old twins - all boys - and we had a great time imagining what it would be like to: (1) not bathe except in a public water fountain; (2) pick up all the coins in said water fountain; and (3) eat junk food all the time. I believe I have the kids sold on running away, but they cannot decide if they would rather live in the California Museum of Science or the Bay Area Discovery Museum. Personal anecdotes aside, this book stands the test of time. Eternal themes of curiosity, loyalty, and good judgement reverberate through the pages of this well written, well paced story. This is an absolute must read for everyone, especially anyone over 50 who grew up in New York City!!

Children’s book don’t have to have multi-layered plots with anti-heroes or twists and turns.Instead children’s books tell simple stories that often do a great job of getting to root meanings of life.From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs Basil E Frankweiler is one of the classics that I think has held up fairly well. Claudia, a 12 year-old oldest child that feels like she is underappreciated by her parents and decides to run away. Her younger brother, Jamie, comes with her mostly for the adventure. Most kids would identify with one or both of these reasons for running away.They take the train from the suburbs of Connecticut to Manhattan and move into the Metropolitan Museum of Art. While they are there, a statue starts showing that may be a lost work of Michelangelo. This gives a purpose not only to the story, but especially to Claudia, who ran away in part to find purpose and meaning.If you haven’t read the story, I won’t blow the whole thing, but I did think the book held up very well from 1967. It does not feel like an old book, although clearly there are anacronysism that modern readers (child) will not always understand (if nothing else the wildly different prices.)I listened to the audiobook from the library. As always, books that I have not read since childhood seem so much shorter today than my memory of them. I listened to the whole thing during an afternoon of data entry work.

"From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" was the Newberry Medal winning book of 1968, and I read it myself shortly after that. I remember being struck at that time, as a young teenager, with what an interesting story the author made of a runaway brother and sister and a mystery they stumble across about a statue in the museum. I was utterly fascinated during the entire read, and I was a good "test case", having read and enjoyed many mysteries for kids before this one.Far from being "encouraged to become a runaway" as some misguided reviewers criticize this story for, I can remember being concerned at how the runaways' family would be impacted by not knowing their fate. This is the type of difficult situation that kids should spend some time thinking about.The fantasy of the kids living in the museum is just fun. They must find ways to dress, bathe, sleep, and eat, all within the normal resources which would be available to them within the museum, and the story of how they accomplish that life is interesting and entertaining.Finally there is the mystery of the statue. A beautiful statue with an uncertain provenance, the kids become enamored of it and seek to investigate its origins. Their pursuit of answers proceeds in a logical and entirely believable series of actions which serve to drive the focus of the plot. Whether this type of story will capture the imagination and interest of kids today who are more used to video games is a question I can't answer. I would feel sorry for any kids who can't understand and become intrigued by this story, as it is a good one to spur thinking on several levels.Highly recommended.

Book #1 of Nightmare Before Christmas: Zero's Journey was a quick and fun read!I cruised right through this book! It only took me about fifteen minutes to read it. Granted I was so anxious to see what was going to happen next, I didn't take my usual time looking at the artwork. So of course, when I finished the story, I went back to get a better look at the art... Which of course, I just loved!I was very excited to see that this was fully colored! When I read the preview, I was curious to see if this would be full color or if we would go back to the black and white style of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas by Jun Asuka. I really enjoyed how dark the Halloween Town panels were, especially when compared to the brighter panels from Christmas Town!Overall, I thought that the story was interesting! I like that Zero ends up back in Christmas Town where he learns more about the holiday first hand. Jack is clearly still a bit obsessed with the holiday!

This book is intended as a sequel to the original film we all know and love. I have to say, I was instantly swept back into that nostalgic world Tim Burton created for us to enjoy on the screen some 25 years ago when I opened to those first pages. The characters all feel very much the same as they were when we last met them. Nothing in the story feels contrived or out of place. And Jack, of course, is my favorite character still! The way the dialogue and imagery is woven together here is done masterfully, in my opinion. I simply cannot wait for the next three installments in this series. If the remaining installments are done right, these will have my eternal adoration. (Can we get this story in film format, please?!) Well done!

I ordered for a young reader. Did not give it to her. Had no idea it was all backwards and would only cause problems for her future learning.

'Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas' from Tokyopop is a continuation of the popular movie starring Jack's dog Zero.Jack Skellington is busy planning next Halloween, but Zero wants to play. When Jack starts absently playing fetch with Zero, Zero ends up in the grove of holidays and ends up in Christmas Town. He makes new friends like flying reindeer and a friendly elf that takes him in. Jack is worried about his friend, but too busy to go looking so he asks for help from an unlikely group.This manga collects issues 0-4 of the series. I enjoyed reading this one, and I liked that it was full color. The art and story should appeal to young readers who like the movie.I received a review copy of this manga from Tokyopop, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this manga.

Sooo I don’t get it...why is it backward??? I wish I had read the other reviews before ordering...oh well. We saw this in a store and it wasn’t backwards so I didn’t think anything about it. I didn’t even really notice when we got it (ordered for my daughters birthday). My husband asked me if it and before I contacted Amazon to return it I re-read the reviews and description and sure enough....I guess it’s on purpose. I just wish it clearly stated it in the description

Told in beautiful pictures that perfectly match the original movie's style, the pages are brimming with color, at the same time spreading thespirit of Halloween and Christmas. I can't wait to see how the story of poor lost Zero continues. Perfect for readers of all ages.

Especially recommended for the type of folks who enjoy ESPN's 30-for-30 approach to sports - a balance of appreciation, intellect and whimsy.

An interesting compilation of sports-related hypotheticals. Some of the topics work better than others, though. And some of the essays are just downright confusing.

I was expecting more truths, than fantasized stories. Some were interesting, most were not. I was sadly disappointed. On to another boom.
