I have been in a corporate management position for over 15 years, and the one thing that is constant is change. I picked up this book after hearing Dr. Schlachter at a conference and loved the chapter on managing chaos. The chapter is spot on with what to do when everything is changing and helps leaders like myself prioritize what changes need to happen and which ones can wait (and what to do when you can't decide). I also think of this book as a refresher from business school. I had many moments of "oh, I remember that" with some tools (SWOT analysis and risk matrix), and "wow, I wish I learned that" with others (the leadership profile and culture assessment in the book). Overall a great book. I am so impressed with how so much information can be in such a concise format, and be so easy to read and act on immediately. This book is staying on my desk for a long, long, time!

I rarely buy Dummies' books, but after hearing Christina talk at a recent event, I bought the book that evening on Amazon. As a newly promoted senior manager for a large telecom, I am faced with non-stop change and found the book full of useful information I could apply right away. I used the project charter as well as ideas on how to communicate with my team. 2 days after I started the new communication plan (which I created based on the information in the book), my boss came into my office and said she was very impressed with how solid may change management plans were and specifically how impressed she was with my ideas for communicating. I love this book and plan on using it many more times in the next few months. I highly recommend the book for anyone faced with a change in their company, or like myself, faced with a change in jobs.

This is a beginner book. After so many years experience most of the content is "built in" in our head. There are too much details. there are too many planning staff and creates a scary belief that "I am a dummy, I can not change anything" .It could be organized in a very brief method of change and all the other staff will be backed as appendixes. Then it could be suitable to all level users to read conveniently. Even the dummiest one can peel off the onion to the final extend to acquire what he needed. Remember, I am dummy and you are expecting me to read and understand and implement hundreds pages !!I admit there is enough "how to" guidance in the book but I also admit that I have started the book by READING, then SCANNING and then SKIMMING with a bad feeling of "this book doesn't deserve the payment, I could have chosen a better one"I will never buy a new book from this series. At least I have discovered I am less dummier than they are targetting :)Utkan Uluçay

Very helpful! The authors make OD and change management theory very accessible and applicable. It belongs on the book shelf of professionals new to leading business change as well as those who are highly experienced and want a quick, credible reference guide. I have a doctorate in organization development and have found Leading Business Change for Dummies to be very useful as a great easy reference to share with clients who are new to managing change.

I must say I was skeptical to see Managing Business Change for Dummies. Having just completed my MBA, my shelf is full of books on business strategy, corporate change, and all of the other hot topics for business literature today. Most books contain a few good morsels of insight and information, with lots of pages of filler. In my mind, if you gain one or two key insights from an author, then the book is a worthwhile read.Business change is real and affects all of us - much of this book is geared towards the manager who has to not only implement changes, but also bring key employees along for the experience. Much of the book focuses on keeping employees motivated through the change, whether it be an organizational or cultural change, a merger, or a reduction in force. Schlachter and Hildebrandt do a great job of detailing the different personas of employees and how they will react to change. They address the issues of how to keep people motivated and with the program as structural change occurs. As is to be expected with the For Dummies format, each topic is clearly delineated with easy to follow highlights and indents for key issues.Nothing the authors state is earth shattering - the importance of keeping close with your employees, offering feedback, honest insights into future direction, a positive outlook, etc, but these lessons can be forgotten, especially in the excitement of a changing environment. The book helps refocus a manager on some key things that they may already know, but don't constantly consider.Finishing the book, I felt I had a great refresher in many business and management fundamentals. I don't think the authors break new ground here, but their message is a valuable one that is well written and presented, and recommended for anybody in a business management position.
